Dr. Colin S. Harrison

Brief Biography

I graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1983 with a BSc in Engineering Science (Mechanical). I have since worked for, and with various engineering companies including McDermott Scotland, British Gas, NCR Dundee, WL Gore, Buko, the University of Dundee and now the University of Strathclyde as well as running my own business.

I completed an MSc in Computer Integrated Manufacturing in Design Manufacturing and Engineering Management (DMEM) at the University of Strathclyde and developed a system to explore aspects of Auditory Localisation for Telepresence. This led onto a PhD in Telepresence in the same group. Additional work has involved working as a research fellow on a number of interesting projects including a Wheelchair Virtual Reality platform with Haptic Feedback, and a 3D viewing system.

I have published papers on all of this work other than the 3D viewing material, aspects of which are patentable, and one patent and an additional patent application has been submitted.

Apart from my research I enjoy Hang Gliding as well as (very) occasional golf and skiing.
